Children in focus for Eid ul Fitr

Children in focus for Eid ul Fitr

It was a special day for the young ones at the Taakaful Friendly Society’s Eid celebrations on September 20 at the Hockey Centre in Tacarigua.

It was a day of jubilation and celebration and Digicel fit right in, as they shared in the festivities to mark the annual Eid ul Fitr programme organised by the Taakaful Friendly Society in Tacarigua. The young ones were the focus of attention at the event, which saw a 1,500-strong turnout at the Hockey Centre, to commemorate the occasion. Chairman of the Taakaful Society planning committee, Aman Hosein, said, “We’ve been doing open-air Eid celebrations for the past 26 years.

We started as a small group, doing it at the Curepe Savannah and it’s grown tremendously since then. We also use the event to foster and encourage our youngsters in community affairs. “It’s a time for us to treat our children in a special way and we were able to do so with Digicel’s assistance.

We were very thankful and appreciative of the gifts.” Much to the glee of the children, packages of treats and sweets, with the compliments of Digicel, were distributed, adding to the fun-filled atmosphere that followed the official ceremony.

Digicel communications manager Penny Gomez said of company’s involvement last weekend, “Eid ul Fitr is a significant celebration on the T&T landscape...(this) is our way to add value in a meaningful way that is important to those who observe this day and therefore of priority to us as well.” This is the second year that Digicel has collaborated with the Taakaful Friendly Society and the relationship is in keeping with the company’s commitment to respect and contribute tangibly to all sectors of the T&T culture.
